APEC Privacy Framework

The APEC Privacy Framework is a comprehensive set of measures that support the protection of personal information in the APEC region. The Framework sets out the principles and commitments that underpin APEC's privacy agenda, and provides a roadmap for the development of more detailed policies and measures.

It represents a commitment by APEC economies to protect personal information and establish common ground on privacy protection issues. It is based on existing national laws, policies, and practices, which are consistent with internationally recognized principles for protecting personal information.

The framework provides a common approach to privacy protection that can be used as a basis for developing specific policies, laws, and practices in each economy. The Framework also provides guidance on how to develop effective domestic privacy laws, regulations, policies, or other measures based on international standards such as those developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Guidelines on Multinational Enterprises (MNEs).
